How to record microphone input without playback in audacity?

Writer Mia Lopez

I'm using audacity to try to record what I listen in my android phone on ubuntu 20.04. I've installed pavucontrol. I open PulseAudio Volume Control and on Input Devices -> Port, I selected Microphone (plugged in). I gave it a 147% (10,00 dB) gain. Then on audacity I select ALSA, pulse and I start recording. It records the same screeching noise whether I'm playing some sound on the phone or not. If I don't connect some earphones to the phone it uses the speaker. So I'm using a splitter for the phone, to connect some earphones and an audio jack from the phone to the laptop's audio/mic combo port. I do not want to listen audio playback on the computer while recording.
